Breast Augmentation Rated Second Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedure in the World

Breast augmentation surgery was the second most popular plastic surgery procedure in the world, according to statistics released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) in 2013. According to the ISAPS, it is demand in the U.S. market which was responsible for driving breast implant surgery to the second position.

Breast surgery in general, comprising breast lifts, breast reduction and gynecomastia (male breast reduction surgery), is among the top 10 procedures performed in the U.S., says the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and has grown at a spectacular rate during the decade ending 2011.

One of the main reasons for the popularity of breast implants is FDA acceptance of silicone gel breast implants. Most women feel that silicone implants offer a more natural look and feel than their saline counterpart, though they require a larger incision to insert as they come prefilled.

Another option which is becomingly increasingly popular is fat transfer breast enhancement. This technique uses autologous fat tissue to boost the breast volume. In other words, the plastic surgeon harvests excess fat tissue from one area of your body and transfers the graft to your breasts to improve size and shape. This technique is ideal for women who have fat to spare in their hips, abdomen or flanks.

Many women who go in for breast augmentation also have other cosmetic surgery procedures such as lipoplasty to improve contour in various areas. Plastic surgeons utilize the latest minimally invasive liposuction modalities to remove excess fat and skin from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, upper arms, back, neck and face.

In short, it’s all about looking good and with the advancements in technology and surgical techniques, achieving your cosmetic goals is becoming easier and safer.

3D Imaging Capability Enhances Breast Augmentation Surgery Outcome

Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures today. New technologies and techniques have made the treatment even more effective. One groundbreaking innovation that has made a big difference to breast enhancement procedures is 3D technology. By capturing 3D images of the woman’s body, amazing simulation systems such as Axis 3D provide a preview of the results. This helps improves the patient’s confidence as she can make an informed decision.

With Axis Three, the surgeon can demonstrate the results he is expecting to achieve. Earlier, a woman could only look at before and after pictures of other patients to get some idea of the results of her breast implant surgery. But with 3D breast augmentation imaging, the cosmetic surgeon can simulate the results with different types of breast implants from various angles. This allows the surgeon to go ahead with the surgery confident that the patient will approve of the results.

This 3D technology is also used in fat transfer breast augmentation surgery which involves enhancement using the patient’s own tissue. Fat is removed from areas where it is abundant and injected into the breasts to enhance volume and shape. Three dimensional imaging helps the surgeons estimate of the amount of fat required for breast augmentation, evaluate and demonstrate the end results to the patient, and plan further interventions if necessary. Plastic surgery practices that use 3D imaging can provide their patients with customized results for cosmetic breast surgery.
